About Fred M. Dole

Fred M. Dole is an avid O gauge model railroader and classic car enthusiast. He is shown above (left) at the controls of his 3-rail O gauge layout which includes the town of Raymondale that was originally on Frank Ellison's famous Delta Lines layout in New Orleans. At the right, Fred poses with his 1965 Dodge Custom 880 station wagon which is a fully restored duplicate of one which he had purchased newiin 1965 - same color, same interior, same equipment - a once-in-a-lifetime find!

 

SCENIC PHOTOGRAPHY

Fred M. Dole achieved national recognition as a large format scenic photographer shooting 8x10 transparencies for calendars, puzzles, posters and magazines from the late 1960s through the 1990s. Five photography agencies nationwide, including Freelance Photographers Guild, Getty Images and Tony Stone Images, marketed his photos. Although no longer actively shooting large format scenic images, Mr. Dole offers custom matted and framed prints for home and office decor from his extensive stock photography files.

MODEL TRAIN PHOTOGRAPHY

In 1987, Mr. Dole joined Myron J. Biggar in the adventure of transforming a small, occasionally published O gauge model train magazine, O Scale Railroading, into a nationally recognized publication. Under Mr. Dole's leadership as Editor, Photographer and Art Director for nearly twenty years he helped xO Gauge Railroading, as the magazine is currently known, go from a 32 page magazine of 2000 copies with 8 pages of color to a 150 or more page magazine with over 30,000 copies per issue.
